It is with heavy hearts that we spread the news of the passing of Renee “Apple” Applegate in August. Apple was the owner and manager of operations at Dive Paradise in Cozumel and a long time friend of the A-1 Scuba family. She was ever present at our Annual May Event, where many of you met her – if not by visiting Dive Paradise itself.

Stacie Aden, instructor at A-1 Scuba and long time friend of Apple’s, says:

“My husband Terry and I can speak to Apple’s kindness and generosity. We have been diving with Dive Paradise since 1998. Years ago when we were having our home in Cozumel renovated, we were looking for storage space for our belongings, including furniture. When Terry asked Apple if she knew of a place, she offered the space above the main shop. Our things were there for months without charge! And, she always took time to listen and to talk.”

Apple’s memorial mass took place on August 23rd. According to Dive Paradise, memorial donations in Apple’s honor can be made to the Humane Society of Cozumel, as she was an advocate for all animals.

Sherri Davis of Dive Paradise has been designated as Director of Dive Paradise in Apple’s absence. We wish her and the whole Dive Paradise staff, as well as Apple’s friends and family best wishes and all of our support.
