As many Denver divers know, several locations around Colorado are worth exploring. Common picks include the Denver Aquarium, Carter Lake, and Blue Mesa Reservoir. However, as amazing as these spots are, they pale in comparison to adventure diving in tropical waters where the warm sun and clear waters are on your side.

Because of this, we at A-1 Scuba plan adventure diving trips not only in Colorado, but to popular locations around the world―such as Cozumel, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Here are some of nature’s most incredible ocean critters that you can look forward to seeing when you come with us:

Sharks at the Denver Aquarium

Have you ever seen a shark up close before — so close you could probably touch it? While keeping a safe distance is always recommended, seeing them up close is truly magical. Thankfully, you don’t have to go halfway around the world to do so. At the Denver Aquarium, you can see sand tiger sharks, zebra sharks, grey reef, barracudas and more. That’s a lot of underwater critters in just one visit.

Sea Turtles in Cozumel

Adventure diving in the Caribbean is a beautiful experience and offers a whole different diversity than an aquarium. Naturally, Cozumel has its own sharks too. However, the turtles are sure to grab your attention along with a wide range of tropical colorful fish in crystal clear water. the real attraction.

Stingrays in the Cayman Islands

Thanks to Stingray City, the Cayman Islands are well known for their stingrays. Stingray City on Grand Cayman is not the only place to see them though. You will also come across stingrays while diving at Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Other marine life you will encounter in the water and on shore include:

  • Crabs
  • Lobsters
  • Barrel sponges
  • Dolphins
  • Yellow-headed jawfish
  • Squid and Octopus especially on night dives

Whales in the Philippines

Whales sharks may be the largest and most exciting thing you come across in the Philippines. These creatures are massive yet so gentle. Though they are definitely worth seeing while visiting abroad, you will find that the Philippines’ 7000 islands are home to other forms of marine life considered rare in the rest of the world. Here are some of the many that you will come across:

  • Every variety of nudibranch
  • Giant frogfish in a variety of colors
  • Unusual Octopus
  • Ghost pipefish
  • Seahorses

And the list goes on…
