Independent Diver Program
Why take this course?
The purpose of the Independent Diver course is to demonstrate how to dive safely and confidently on an Independent dive, as well as review the special equipment require. It is not a course for everyone and certainly not one to be taken lightly so the pre-requisites have been set accordingly. It is intended for experienced divers who wish to develop their skills generally, perhaps in preparation for further advanced training.

You’ll learn
- Philosophy of, and motivation for, diving without a partner
- Potential risks of diving alone, and how to manage such risks
- Value of equipment redundancy and what back up equipment is needed
- Dive planning and gas management
Prerequisites
- Must be certified SSI Advanced Adventurer, or equivalent
- Must be certified SSI Diver Stress and Rescue, or equivalent
- Must be certified or provide proof of experience in Night and Limited Visibility, Deep Diving and Navigation specialties.
- Have logged at least 75 open water dives totaling 50 hours or more
- Be at least 18 years of age

- Statement of Understanding and Learning Agreement (PDF)
- Medical Statement (PDF)
Equipment requirements
- Standard Dive Equipment (BCD, Regulator, mask, fins, exposure suit)
- Redundant gas source (Pony or stage cylinder with attachments and 1st & 2nd stage regulator with SPG)
- Surface Marker Buoy and at least 100 ft. of line
- Redundant depth gauge and bottom timer, or dive computer
- Redundant surface signaling devices (both visual and audible)
- Knife/cutting tool
- Slate & pencil
Course Fee- $330
Includes:
- One classroom and pool session
- Three open water dives
- SSI certification
- Course registration fee
Not included:
- BCD, Regulator, Gauges & Exposure Suit (these can be rented from A-1)
- Redundant gas source – cylinder, regulator & gauges (these can be rented from A-1, 80 & 63 cubic foot tanks available)
- Specialty equipment (see equipment requirements above)
- Park entry fees, transportation, meals and lodging
