STEP ONE : KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT AND POOL TRAINING KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENTThe Knowledge Development portion of Step 1 develops your familiarity with basic principles and procedures. You learn things like how pressure affects your body, how to choose the best gear and what to consider when planning dives. You complete Knowledge Development on your own, reading each of five sections of the PADI Open Water Manual and watching the corresponding section of the PADI Open Water DVD (which also previews skills you'll learn). If you like learning with a personal computer, you can also get the Open Water Diver Manual and Video segments together as a CD-ROM. In the classroom your instructor will review what you studied at home, highlight certain aspects of diving and have you take a short quiz to be sure you're getting it. At the end of the course, you take an exam that makes sure you've got all the key concepts and ideas down. CONFINED WATER DIVESThis is what it's all about – diving. During this portion of Step 1 you'll develop basic scuba skills in our onsite swimming pool. Here you'll learn everything from setting up your gear to how to easily get water out of your mask without surfacing. You'll also practice some emergency skills, like sharing air – just in case. Plus, you may play some games, make new friends and have a great time. After completing Step 1 you'll be ready for STEP 2 - OPEN WATER TRAINING COURSE FEEWe offer a wide variety of beginning classes including: weeknights, weekends, occasional daytime classes and private instruction. What happens after my classroom training is complete? Once you've completed your classroom and pool training, you'll need to perform your open water training. You will repeat the same skills you learned in our swimming pool, only this time they will be performed in the open water. Because your pool skills have been mastered and the academic material is still fresh in your mind, we recommend that you complete your open water training soon after completing your last pool session. We have five options from which to choose. Click here |
