Our divers with disabilities program is expanding to include the Blind. Recently, Garrick Scott from Georgia joined Jennifer Stevens, Director of Community Development at the Colorado Center for the Blind and A-1 instructors Carol, Rita and Stacie on a fun-filled Try Scuba Experience in our pool.

Garrick said, “I had a wonderful time. Blind people should be able to participate in a variety of recreational activities, including scuba diving. This program will help open the door to an activity the blind can also enjoy. Whether scuba diving, rock climbing or flipping chicken in hot popping grease, diving provides a reasonable challenge, helps accomplish a goal and builds self confidence.

Lydia a 13 year old girl from California was also in for a visit with family and decided to try scuba thanks to her sister in-law Kate Suek, an Assistant Instructor at A-1. She said, “that was amazing and I will be back!”. We can’t wait Lydia!!

Look forward to more exciting stories of our many divers with disabilities.
