When I saw that information on the Denver Aquarium, at first I thought, cool, maybe I'll check it out while I'm in town. Little did I know that it would turn into a full-blown diving adventure.
I was browsing the Denver Aquarium website to find out their hours so I could make sure I made time for a visit when I saw it: "Dive the Aquarium." Oh yeah, I gotta do this.
I was directed to the website of Denver's A-1 Scuba and Travel Center to sign up for my aquarium dive. Wendie Murray, A-1's training officer, called me back right away and I was able to set up a private dive. My friend Kathy had recently moved to Denver so I called her up and, just like that, I had a dive buddy for a dive in the aquarium. Talk about being stoked!

"Dive with sharks? Are you crazy?" Those who plan to take the shark dive at the Denver Aquarium frequently get that reaction from their non-diving brethren.
The danger, however, is minimal if one follows the proper procedures.

Read what Lois Friedland, About.com Guide, had to say about Dive With Sharks in Denver's Downtown Aquarium.

It was an odd time for us to sandwich it in. We were in town for my daughter Brooke's U-12 state playoff hockey tournament. With the first game ending at 10:30 a.m., we had just enough time to make it over to the Aquarium for a relaxing dive with sharks before her next game started at 3 pm. To her coach's chagrin, she's likely the only person in the world who has scuba dived between two hockey games…

Nose-to-nose with a 250-pound grouper, the scuba diver waves at the crowd on the far side of the glass in the aquarium. Did you know aquarium scuba diving - and snorkeling -- with fish is offered at several aquariums in the U.S., as well as in other countries? Some "snorkel with the fish" experiences are open age six and older.

On Saturday July 5, Cody Unser, of the legendary Unser racing team family, showed disabled veterans that scuba diving is accessible for people of all abilities, during her visit to the Mile HIGH City for the National Veterans Wheelchair games. Unser, paralyzed due to Transverse Myelitis, has been an honorary member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) since 2008. Cody and eight disabled veterans, joined the team of A-1 Scuba and Travel Center to dive in the Downtown Aquarium. One veteran commented, “I became a diver after my injury because I knew it would provide an incredible amount of freedom and enjoyment. Your program is by far the best of the best!”
